The Babysitters Club - a 90s comeback in Book talk (April 26)

Reviews

{My thoughts} – It is absolutely important for you to have read the other Baby Sitter Club Graphic Novels and or books to understand the characters in this book. Karen is Kristy’s younger Step-sister and she has one entertaining imagination. She has it in her head that their next door neighbor Mrs. Porter is a witch. She believes this so much so that she has scared herself and isn’t able to sleep well at night. She also obsesses over the concept and continually spies on Mrs. Porter.

One night she swears she saw Mrs. Porter and her cat fly into the night on a broom stick. Another day she swears she learned about a witch meeting that is suppose to take place at Mrs. Porter’s house. She takes everything she hears to a whole different level within her imagination.

I can see how a child can have such an imagination once they get certain things caught in their heads. It was fun to read where the story went. I look forward to reading more books in this series in the future.

{My thoughts} – Stacey and May Anne get to go on a two week trip to the beach with Mallory’s family. They are going along to help take care of the younger children so that Mallory isn’t the only older child of baby-sitting age there.

While they are on their trip they send postcards to other members of the baby-sitters club as a means of keeping in touch. They also get into a few disagreements over boys. Did I mention boys? They both meet a couple as well and seem to hit off alright, although they aren’t both happy for each other in a sense.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It helps to show that even when you have plans and you know what you are meant to do, that things don’t always work out that way. It shows that sometimes, things aren’t what they seem, and sometimes they are. It also shows, that when you make a commitment to do something you should really stick with it and not try and find a way out of it.

All and all this was a fun read and I look forward to reading more books by both authors in the future!

{My thoughts} – This is a very special book. It is all centered around the preparation and an actual wedding. Over the course of many of the books we have been getting bits and pieces about the wedding that was to take place between Kristy’s mom and her fiance Watson. This book helps to tie all that together.

I really enjoyed reading the books. The illustrations made the actual wedding appear to be rather magical. I’m not sure I could have imagined it to be any better then it was within the pages of this book. It was truly well done.

I liked how Kristy and the rest of the Baby-Sitters Club had come together to help everyone by watching all of the children. I like that everyone pitched in and did their part to help make things easier for Kristy’s mom and Watson on their big day. Most of all I like that Kristy came around to the idea of the wedding and the blending of their family with Watsons.

I look forward to reading the next book when it comes out in the series. In the meantime, I will have to pass time reading the numerous other graphic novels in my TBR list!

{My thoughts} – The Baby-Sitters Club gets more then they bargain for when they all end up mad at one another. Mary Anne keeps trying to make peace by writing apology letters but no one seems to take them seriously. They end up running the club in a poor way, it’s extremely unorganized, and no one is really speaking to one another. It is almost like they are constantly trying to sabotage one another.

Mary Anne ends up making friends with the new kid in school. Her name is Dawn and they get along well. It comes out eventually that she’d made friends with her to make the members of the Baby-Sitting Club jealous, but in the end that doesn’t really matter.

The entire Baby-Sitters Club eventually makes up with one another. They become friends again and find a way to work through the things that had upset them to begin with. Best of all they invite Dawn to be a member. I think that’s pretty neat, because she’d helped Mary Anne with a baby-sitting job and everything turned out really well, even though Mary Anne was struggling with the desire to panic the entire time.

This was a nice addition to the storyline and it helps the readers get to know Mary Anne a lot more. It also introduces us to Dawn a new member of the Club! I look forward to reading the next book in the series soon!
