YA fantasy about girl with golden hair. in Name that Book (February 2016)

Reviews

What a charming book! This should be on a teen required reading list. The writing is both vivid and unintimidating, and it cleverly ties together a beloved comic strip with a story of a young man’s mental health journey. It also offers a take on the topic of mental health that’s different from most YA novels that address it. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that I was not sure how things would end.

I enjoyed this book! It is very well written. It's full of real life. Death, birth, famine, times of plenty. The characters are genuine; especially Rebecca. She says it like it is. A definite must read!

I grew up near Vancouver, I know people lost to Hastings and Main, I know Angels. This book broke me.

I got this book from a sale in a shop called Booksale. I bought it because it was so cheaply priced and when I peeked inside, I noticed that it was styled differently. And then after buying it, it sat on my house somewhere completely forgotten. Then came the ECQ, and I was so glad I picked it up.

The topic of the book is very serious and I couldn’t have read it otherwise if not for the author’s unique way of writing. It can be easily grasped and lightly written without compromising the meaning and the message. I was completely moved by the story wishing with all my might that child prostitution be stopped. I almost cried by the tragedies that Angel suffered. I want to thank the author for writing beautifully. If not for her, I wouldn’t have read a book with this kind of heart-wrenching topic.… (more)
