This is the second book in the Downs Series, set in 1880s Queensland. Phelan, our hero, is in trouble, accused of something that (for once) he didn’t do. The book is well-written, and describes several historical events from the area, woven into the plot. It’s a great adventure story, with elements of romance and mystery, and I enjoyed reading it. The characters and dialog are believable, and the plot flows smoothly. Great entertainment!
I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book. I used a Scribe to read the Kindle edition of this book. ( )

Eamon Phelan comes with the warning that everyone should avoid him. That is until he meets a young lady. This Durham man is followed but gold or her heart does he seek.
A great quick read that drew me in and was hard to put down

A light but very enjoyable read. This book is set in and around the town of Gympie, Queensland, Australia during the goldrush era of 1880. The writing included words and phrases from the 19th century that requires an understanding of the time in which the novel is set. There is also some ‘Aussie’ slang that this Kiwi reviewer appreciated and understood. I have many Australian friends and have travelled extensively over many years in Victoria, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and Queensland - including Toowoomba, but unfortunately, not Gimpie. A very readable novel Casey and well done. As an Early Reviewer I received this book from LibraryThing for an honest review and I award it 4 stars. ( )
