Maybe not quite as rich as Lowry's Anastasia Krupnik, but in a similar vein. Byars is a wonderful author who has not gotten enough credit. Funny, heartwarming, and sympathetic.

Bingo's first love, Melissa, has moved away and he must deal with the ins and outs of a long distance relationship at the tender age of 12. He has abandoned Burning Questions for daily Trials and Triumphs. He's still absurdly literate for a twelve year old and still hilarious to read about. ( )
