Measuring Penny is a great way to get children to be filled with enriched scientific vocabulary. For example the author used “units”. The author also provided an example for the reader. I would say that this book not only provides scientific terminology there is also math terminology. Something that I found important was that the author set the scene in order to make it relatable to students. In this book the girl is trying to find the measurements of dog Penny. However, she does more than find her weight. The girl also focuses on what it costs to take care of a dog and their behavior and how each breed is different from each other. I would recommend this reading when teaching children scientific and mathematical terminology. There are also other books that the author has written that help build off of a student's background knowledge. ( )

This story is about a girl named Lisa whose homework assignment is to measure something in several different ways. Lisa decides to measure her dog, Penny. Using standard and nonstandard units, Lisa explores height, width, length, weight, volume, temperature, and time. I liked this book because it explored several different ways of measurement, using something pretty much every child loves- a cute dog. ( )

The reader follows a young girl named Lisa and her journey of completing her homework assignment which is to find different ways to measure different things in her household. This helps students realize they can use other things to measure that they never would have though, like paperclips. This book would be helpful in assisting students in understanding height, length, width, weight, volume, temperature, and time. ( )

This is the story of a little girl named Linda who receives an assignment from her teacher to measure something. Linda decides that she is going to measure her dog Penny, so Linda and Penny head to the dog park. Linda uses standard and non-standard measurements to measure Penny and the other dogs for her school project. I give this book a 5-star rating because it is great for introducing your students to the concept of measurements. You could also use this book as a fun activity by getting your students to measure different objects in the classroom or at home using standard and non-standard measurements. ( )

This book is about a girl who measures many things around her using standard measurements and non-standard measurements. I rate this book 5 stars because the author includes many different types of ways to measure and many different things the reader can measure that he or she may not usually think of. This book makes measuring fun, which can get students engaged. The main character measured things like the length of her dog's tail and she measured it by using dog treat rather than a standard ruler. Typically, when students learn about measurements they only learn about standard measurements and they do not get to choose what they want to measure. This book encourages readers to be creative with what they're measuring, and how they measure things. ( )
