Mother Nature was so busy she forgot to color the birds. So monkeys come with paint to be her helpers. When the birds are all decorated, then legs and necks were stretched, feathers and combs added, beaks, bills, masks, etc. But then one last lost bird arrives. Alas! the only color left is brown. The bird is rather sad. But then they remember one last tiny pot. A drop of gold goes down its throat. It is the gift of song -- of the Nightingale. ( ) no reviews | add a review
The story of how birds got their colors, beautifully told by Vlasta van Kampen through her vibrant watercolor illustrations. When Mother Nature first creates the world, the birds are colorless. Soon all the birds assemble and monkeys paint them, making each one beautiful and unique. When they are finished, there is a wonderful celebration. Into the middle of the festivities flies one small bird. He has got lost on his way and arrives to discover there are only two pots of paint left—one with a drop of brown and the other with a drop of gold. The duck has a wonderful idea. Into the little bird’s mouth she lets fall a single drop of gold paint. When the little bird opens his mouth, out comes the sweetest sound! No library descriptions found. |
