This edition puts a modern twist on the traditional story. Both Granny and child are swallowed, then rescued intact by the hunter who kills the wolf. At the end of the book, Red Riding Hood makes a promise to Granny -- to never speak to another stranger, not matter how charming.

A thoroughly modern, thoroughly charming retelling of the old favorite. Witty and direct . . . both Granny and child are swallowed, then rescued intact by the hunter who kills the wolf. . . . A perfect union of words, story, and illustration.

Book description
Traditional/folk and fairy tales. Preschool-primary. Tells the traditional tale with Marshall’s characteristic humor and simple, cartoonish illustrations. This version is direct about the wolf’s eating Red Riding Hood and the woodcutter chopping the wolf open, but it isn’t gory.
