A little boy puts on his rain boots and coat, and goes outside the sail his little boat around in a puddle. A frog hops onto his boat and sails a off, but the boy can't go after him, because his mom told him to stay out of the puddles. The frog crashes the boat into a turtle-she gets mad. An alligator offers to get the boat back, but he accidentally breaks it in his mouth. A pig jumps in the puddle and goes for a swim. Finally, a thirsty elephant comes and slurps up almost all of the water. The other animals get mad, so she shoots the water back at them through her trunk. The sun comes up, dries up the water, and the boy returns home. Short and simple story, with excellent watercolor illustrations. ( )

Rainy days can still be fun! McPhail takes the reader on a rainy day adventure with an imaginative little boy. He wants to sail his boat in the puddles, but he iss intercepted by a few animals along the way: a sneaky frog, an inviting but mischievous turtle, a friendly alligator, a thirsty elephant, and fun-loving pig. With one goal in mind, not to get wet, he makes the best of his situation and takes his imagination back home to a nice, hot bath. ( )

A little boy wants to sail his boat in a puddle but is instructed to not get in the puddle, himself. Different animals come along to play in the puddle but he mustn't. He does not get a lot of time to play with his boat so when he gets inside he takes it in the tub while he's bathing.

This book was cute but I was not a fan of it. He finally gets private time to play with his boat. ( )
