This is one of my favorite books to read aloud with Novel Effect. It's also one of the few picture books that sixth graders will appreciate. Therefore, that makes this superior to most picture books. I could read this book a million times and never get tired of it. Not to mention how spooky it is that Sam and Dave discover a new dimension without realizing it... ( )

Sam and Dave dig an enormous hole, going first one way then that, never finding anything that special. The joke is in the illustrations: every time they turn, they just miss an enormous treasure.

The fun of this one is in the illustrations. My kids love being in the know when the characters are not.
