I'm not sure what the author's purpose in writing this book was. It was a hodge-podge of biography, company history/ politics, computer science, and idol worship. I didn't feel like I had any more insight into how Jobs "thought different." And it felt like large chunks of his life were omitted or minimized (e.g., despite the idea that Jobs's relationship with Bill Gates was important, Gates was mentioned only in passing, we saw very little of the "feud" or even understood how they knew each other). I understand that you can't record a whole life in a book but you must be thoughtful in what you omit and still tell a coherent, meaningful story. Given the references cited, the author clearly consulted a plethora of resources but the final product felt piece-meal and lacked a solid point of view or theme. (Yes, even non-fiction should have a theme.) ( )

This book is all about Steve Jobs and his path to becoming one of the world's most successful individuals of all time. This book talks about how he started out with computers and where it lead him. There are some surprising facts about him that are very interesting. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Steve Jobs. This book goes over his life as well as his crowning achievements. If you are also just looking for an interesting book to pass your time with, this is it. ( )

I was so excited that this came in at the library! I thought this was the book that came to me so highly recommended, by my friend Tressa.

As I came here to check it off as currently reading, I discovered that this was NOT the book I thought it was. Take a look at this cover vs. the cover of the other book titled Steve Jobs. The one written for adults; the one written by Walter Isaacson. I think it's a bit deceiving to use a photograph so close to the photograph used on the cover of the Isaacson book. I'm disappointed and put out by this.

RGG: Engaging biography of Steve Jobs provides interesting history of the Apple side of the evolution to today's technology. Should appeal to readers interested in that history. And also offer insights about a personality of success. Reading Interest: 14-YA.

“On a warm June day in 2005, Steve Jobs went to his first college graduation—as the commencement speaker.” In his brief address to the Stanford graduates, Jobs shared three personal stories from his life, and Blumenthal uses these stories as a template for his biography. Jobs co-founded Apple, becoming a pioneer of the personal computer industry, but a mid-career renaissance also saw him leave an indelible mark on three additional fields: movies (Pixar), music (iPod), and cell phones (iPhone). His remarkable business acumen was not without some notable failures, however, and Blumenthal notes that these were matched by quirks (not to mention shortcomings) in his personal life. Even as he led Apple to ever-greater heights, Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, finally succumbing to the disease late in 2011 at age fifty-six. Blumenthal’s journalistic style suits the subject, and she uses the words of Jobs and his closest associates to paint an engaging and intimate portrait. Few biographies for young readers feel as relevant and current as this one does. Black-and-white photographs are interspersed throughout the narrative, and some interesting tangents are unobtrusively placed in sidebars. Source notes, a bibliography, a glossary, and an index are appended.
