I know this is a kids book, but after listening to the "Amerigo" audiobook, this is a welcome distraction. Apart from the loose, detail lacking narrative, the book is fairly good. It was a quick read. ( )

This was another book by Cornelia Funke that I enjoyed quite a bit. What was different about this one was the lack of a lot of complications that can derail a book like that. Great for middle grade readers. ( )

This is a good book (the first of a series) for elementary boys looking for a spooky story. There are occasional pictures, with relatively easy vocabulary- although some sophisticated words are thrown in.

This story follows an 8 year old boy as he discovers a ghost hiding in his family's cellar. This ghost however is hiding from an even scarier ghost that took over the ghost's home where he had been haunting for many years. Tom gets help from his Grandma's friend, a professional ghost hunter, and they set out to get ride of the ghosts all together.

At the end of the novel, there are reference pages about how to deal with different kinds of ghosts- cute and very imaginative. ( )

Kearsten says: This is a good book for younger readers - maybe 2nd-3rd grade.

Tom is terrified of the ghost in his cellar at first, but gains courage when he decides to help the ghost get its original home back from a bigger bully of a ghost. An experienced ghost hunter (a friend of Tom's grandmother) gives him some pointers, and together they take on an incredibly revolting ghost.

This was fun and silly, and would have great appeal to young boys. The audiobook's narrator, John Beach, did a nice job, especially on the ghosts' voices.
