Mac, the author, and Adam the illustrator creates the story with Chloe, the main character of the story, as the story unfolds, Mac gets upset with Adam for creating something he hadn't written and fires him. Trying to replace Adam he realizes that he has made a terrible mistake and wants it back, but something does not let him back. A postmodern story with a teaching of teamwork told in a very funny way for all who read it with full of fun illustrations. ( )

This story was a bit different to what I had been reading recently. It is about a girl named Chloe that wants coins so she can ride the merry go-round. The thing that stuck out to me about this book was the fact that the author and illustrator were actually participating in the book. I think this book targets students that are a bit older, maybe in the 4th or 5th grade. ( )

This is an adorable and funny story with extremely imaginative illustrations. The author, Mac Barnett, wants Chloe to encounter a lion in the forest. But the illustrator, Adam Rex, decides a dragon would be cooler. So they get into an argument in the middle of the story and Mac fires him. Then the new illustrator, Hank Blowfeather, takes over, and his lion eats Adam. But Mac doesn't think Hank's lion looks scary enough. Hank suggests if he really wants him to be scary, he should make him a dragon because that would be cooler. So Mac fires him, too. Mac tried illustrating the book himself, but did a very poor job of it. Chloe told Mac his artwork was terrible. Finally Mac called Adam inside the lion's stomach and apologized. So Chloe went to find help to get Adam out of the lion. No one could help, so Chloe came up with a plan. She had Mac draw the lion. And his drawing was so awful the lion would do anything to get himself drawn properly again. So he coughed Adam up. Mac tried to end the story there but Chloe got very annoyed until Mac wrote a proper ending. ( )

Another 'meta' book - a must read for those of us who are fans of [b:Chester|1703186|Chester (Chester)|M??lanie Watt|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347537719s/1703186.jpg|1700253], et al, but not quite as side-splitting as that. This is a little gentler, a little sweeter. The depth of the friendship between the author & illustrator characters supports the recommendation that this is not for the youngest children.

I'm off to the creators' GR pages to make sure I've made myself a fan - I love the diversity of the different works I've seen so far and want to make sure I explore even more of their books. ( )
