Wonderfully charming book. But the human falling in the middle and getting hurt could be a bit confusing and startling for younger readers. ( )

Widget is a wonderful story about being yourself! Widget is a stray who has no home and just desperately wants someone to love him. When finally he finds a home that he hopes to move to, but there is one problem... it is filled with cats! This sweet story teaches kids it's okay to be yourself and that stereotypes can be hurtful. because in the end you might find that being different is better than you expected.

Too much canine chauvinism for my tastes. Also, I didn't care for how the 6 female cats were called "the girls", and the only boy in the book got to save everybody. But, other than those nitpicks, the story of the dog that tries to fit in by acting like a cat was pretty funny, and appealingly illustrated. My 2y9mo likes the book, and at the beginning likes to describe who can be friends with the friendless Widget. I get to make a point about cleaning up toys when the old lady trips on one and hurts herself. ( )
