Constantly getting signed out

Dunno what's the matter. When I click on certain links to move from one LT page to another, I get moved to the page I want but I simultaneously get signed out of LT and I have to sign back in again. I also get a popup at the bottom of the browser telling me to click to accept cookies, which leads me to suspect that there may be a cookie problem of some sort that's forcing a sign-out.

It's happening when I click go to my Profile page. No, I'm wrong to say that. Going to my Profile page gets me the popup telling me to click to accept cookies.

Okay, here's an instance of where it's happening. Go to this post. It's a problem with the link to Notre-Dame de Paris. When I entered this link, I did it with a full-blown HTML a-link because I wanted to link to a specific edition (Oxford World's Press), not to any old page for the book that I would get with a touchstone. When I click on that HTML-coded link, however, I get the specific edition I coded for but I'm not signed in to do anything on that page (star-rating the book, and so forth). On the other hand, I can go up to the tabs at the top of the page, click on the Talk link, and I'm signed in without having had to do anything.

It seems link somehow, if I use an HTML a-link (rather than a touchstone) to a book page, clicking on the link brings me to the right book page but I'm not signed in to do anything on that book page.

But this is only happening when I use a non-touchstone HTML a-link to a book page. Everything seems to be okay, no signout problem if I use an HTML a-link to a post on a discussion thread.

Now here's another concern. If my use of a non-touchstone HTML a-link to a book page is causing a problem or me when I click on that link myself, would it cause a problem to some other LT user who clicks on that link? Am I doing some kind of coding that could take another user in one of my Groups into a forced sign-out?

I'm sure I've used non-touchstone HTML a-links on Talk posts in the past. Why is it going wonky on me now?

==========

No, dang it, there's something more going on funny here. I get the forced sign-out when I click on my user-name, CurrerBell, in the upper right, to go to my profile page. And I get that popup about cookies at the bottom of the browser. But then, when I click on some link on my profile page, seems like just about any link on my profile page ... I go to the page I want and I'm signed in. But it doesn't seem to be a problem when i click to go to my home page, just a profile-page problem.

This is weird.

I'm not having problems. You have not mentioned you operating system and browser.

>1 CurrerBell: Okay, thanks for the report. A few questions to investigate/clarify:

1. Can you give a list of the full links you're accessing that are showing you're signed out of LibraryThing?
2. Are you able to swap between links/pages that show you're logged out and pages that show you're logged in? If so, this is odd behavior we'll definitely want to dig further on.
3. As >2 MarthaJeanne: mentions, what browser and OS (operating system) are you using (e.g. Google Chrome, version 90 and Windows 7, etc.)? Do you have any special privacy/security settings or browser extensions that could be doing anything here?
4. Can you try this on a different browser to see if you're experiencing the same issues?

Thanks for your help.

Testing some links: with "book" in the URL, without "book" in the URL

I'm able to click on both of those links and see no logged-out status, nor any cookies message. Same with linking to my username/profile page.

Double-checking:

You're signed into the .com site, not a different language site, correct?

Sorry for taking so long to get back to folks, and thanks for your patience. I had some health problem this morning, thought I might have to call 911, but I've settled down now.

OK, just went to check those two posts, the one to the HTML-code link to Notre-Dame de Paris and the other the link to my profile CurrerBell in the upper right. They're working now.

I don't know what was happening yesterday, but things were really quirky. I'm going to change this "bug status" to Closed by member and hope the situation has resolved itself.

Thanks again, everyone, for your help! I'll repost to a new thread if this problem recurs, and I'm keeping this thread starred so I can come back to it and post the requisite information (especially >3 kristilabrie:) if I need to revisit this issue.

>6 CurrerBell: So sorry for the health scare, I hope you're okay! Glad things are all well now, do let us know if it comes back. Thanks.
