I've been wanting to ask this for a long time.
each month and usually more frequently - LT sends out a lot of book recs. sometimes 250; sometimes, 500; sometimes 1,000. This can be fun and useful - but where do they go when they disappear?
What if i want to review them when I actually want to find books. (which is not really at the moment) i have my own reading projects - but i am interested in finding forgotten gems. where do they go? are they of any use if they just disappear every 2 weeks?

There is a drop down in there that says "By date". That allows you to see all the recommendation batches separately :)
If you are looking at the "For You", with the filter set to All-Time, it is a mix of batches (newest and older ones), ordered by relevance so nothing is technically lost. If you stay on "New Books", it will be just the latest of course. If you wanted to see something specific from a few weeks/months ago, you can go through the batches.
