About the Author

Bernard Waber was born in 1924 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and educated at the University of Pennsylvania. He also studied art at the Philadelphia College of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He wrote and illustrated numerous children's books including The House on East 88th Street, show more Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, Lyle at Christmas, Ira Sleeps Over, and Ira Says Goodbye. Lyle the crocodile lives in a house on East 88th Street in New York City. Lyle enjoys helping the Primm family with everyday chores, and playing with the neighborhood kids.

He's the happiest crocodile any home ever had...until one neighbor insists that Lyle belongs in a zoo! Mr. Grumps and his cat, Loretta, don't like crocodiles, and everything Lyle does to win them over seems to go wrong.

Ira is going to have a sleepover at his friend's house, but his sister makes him second-guess his decision to bring his teddy bear (although his parents promise his friend won't laugh at him - and they're right).
