"The Mighty Mississippi: The Life and Times of America's Greatest River" by Linda Vieira is a nonfiction story that follows the history of the Mississippi River from 14,000 BCE to today. The author begins by given a detail account on how the river came to be formed from glaciers and then continues with information about how the rivers has seen wars, floods, slavery, and other historical events. It provides a timeline at the top of each page that progresses as the readers reads throughout the story. Towards the end of the book there is a shift where the story is no longer focused on the historical ties of the Mississippi River but the natural connections in terms of wildlife and preservation of the river.
