A young boy named James wants to play golf but isn't allowed at the local 'white's only' course. He starts caddying and meets Charlie, a long-time caddy-ostensibly Charlie Sifford, the first black PGA golfer. After a day of hard work, Charlie shows him how he plays the course at night, in the dark. Great author's notes and a timeline of African-American's in Golf. Charlie and James encounter plenty of racism at the course. A few outdated references, but still a keeper.

Beautiful painted pictures and wonderful story. When Sonny's mom loses her job, the family is afraid they will be put out in the streets because they can't pay the rent. However, Sonny has a great idea to raise money to pay their rent- a Jazz party.
