In which we find out the backstory of Mrs Hudson, Holmes' housekeeper who has known Holmes longer than Mary has.

Is she really Scottish? Is she really a widow? Why does she like Mary so much?

Mary is shocked to find out the truth about her origins and how she came to be Holmes' housekeeper for decades.

A good story!

One of King's one-off stories (or will Raquel Liang become a new repeat character). Set in San Mateo County, a valuable statue slips during a storm, revealing bones underneath. Liang is part of a task force working to uncover the victims of a serial killer--could this be one of his victims?

The site was a commune in the 70s, and is still owned by the same man/trust. LIang begins her investigation, doing interviews, looking through photos, watching old home movies.

This is King at her best--multiple mysteries and story lines, different timelines, many characters. It all weaves in and out seamlessly, as we meet people past and present (and both), and try to follow the clues that are there if not so obvious.

Well done. Good narration.

This is full of Holmes history, and gives us very little of Mary. It's a fascinating story of heritage for Holmes, but I do wish it had included more action or dialogue from Mary. This is the most recently published in the series as of my reading it, so I am sad to be caught up. This is the only book in the series not narrated by Jenny Sterlin on audio, so I missed her voice.

I enjoyed this one slightly less than many of the previous just because Mary seems a bit swayed to superstitions and is jumpier than her character should be. It didn't feel true to her character thus far. Another great setting in Romania and small town mysteries though.
