A fun, rhyming story about a young boy attending school for the first time in 1754. His school room is full of boyish antics, a stern headmaster, and the challenge of learning to read. We see the ins and outs of the school day from autumn to spring.

Lively staccato text describes life in a one-room schoolhouse.

I liked this book because it was a rhyming book. It covers a family moving west to California. I can use this book in my social studies classroom to introduce the gold fever era and the western frontier.

A short picture book about Early American life. Sarah works on chores all day long, she imagines having a brand new dress to replace her snug dress she currently wears. It isn't until her dress rips that she finally receives a newly made dress. This is a book is a good introduction to young children about life in the early 1700's.
