The Principal's New Clothes by Stephanie Calmenson is a whimsical and modern take on the classic tale of 'The Emperor's New Clothes.' In this humorous adaptation, the principal of Wagstaff Elementary finds himself in a comical predicament when he falls for a cunning tailor's scheme. This book is part of the Young Readers series about Allie and Amie, Best friends. To raise money for their playground, their neighborhood is having a street fair. Allie and Amie already have an idea for a booth: Instant Story Booth. They will be telling stories. But Allie is sick and needs to rest for a week. Unfortunately, she will have to miss the fair, and Amy is on her own. But there is a solution. It is a feel-good story to make any person who reads it smile. Short chapters and a few black-and-white illustrations showing the diversity in characters are still present. A large typeface makes this a great read for those who are ready to go beyond readers and start on chapter books. A list of characters before the content page will bring readers up to speed with the story. There is a word list and some questions in the back to extend the reading pleasure.

So incredibly cute! It takes a lot for a counting book to stand out to any parent after a few years of reading them, but this one has exceptional art and a very fun theme. My kid loved spotting details in the illustrations and debating which doggy looked most like the doggies he knows.
