About the Author

Mary Balogh was born in Swansea, Wales on March 24, 1944. She received a B.A. with honors from the University of Wales in 1965. From 1967 to 1988, she taught high school English in Saskatchewan, Canada, becoming principal of the school in 1982. Her first novel, A Masked Deception, was published in show more 1985 and she won the Romantic Times Award for best new Regency writer. Since then, she has written more than 60 novels and has received a lifetime achievement award for her work in the genre of historical romance. Her works include The Wood Nymph, Christmas Promise, The Plumed Bonnet, Famous Heroine, A Matter of Class, No Man's Mistress, More than a Mistress, One Night for Love, and Only a Kiss. The Arrangement (The Survivors' Club #2) by Mary Balogh

This was a sweet story. There was not much external conflict after the situation setup, but the characters are well-drawn and their personal growth makes the novel appealing. I will certainly check out more by this author; luckily there is lots to choose from!

This is a really sweet novella. I like the way that the author set up the story with every other chapter being the past or the present. That style fit this book very well.

The Arrangement by Mary Balogh

This is a truly adorable book. The main characters are really sweet and it was nice to read about them getting to know each other. I liked the secondary characters (the Survivors' Club) and I'm interested in reading more of the series to find out about them.

I wouldn't say that there was much passion in this book, but I'm not experienced enough with regency romances to know if that is normal for the genre. The relationship starts out as a marriage of convenience, so that may have something to do with it. That's not to say that there wasn't something between the main characters. They had good chemistry and seemed to genuinely care for each other.

All in all, this book was a breath of fresh air. I've overdone it with reading fantasy lately, so it was nice to read something different that I really enjoyed.… (more)

Always Remember by Mary Balogh

Lady Jennifer and Ben Ellis have an attraction but there's the gulf of her disability and his background. Lady Jennifer has some dreams and most of them are out of her reach but when Ben realises that he can help her achieve some of them he goes full bore, and has to apologise occasionally for overreaching and not checking in with her if that's what she wants. The slow development of the relationship and the realisation that they were in love was just do nice to read. All-in-all a very good read.… (more)
